Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
General Information
What is The Talentless Music?
The Talentless Music (TTLM) is an independent record label dedicated to helping artists of all sizes reach their full potential. We aim to provide artists with the resources, guidance, and support they need to grow and succeed in their musical careers.
What services does TTLM provide?
The Talentless Music is an independent record label providing music distribution, release management, and artist guidance and support. We help our artists release music to major streaming platforms without upfront distribution fees while assisting with metadata, credits, royalties, artist profiles, and platform requirements. Beyond distribution, we offer creative resources, community support, and promotional assistance when available, allowing artists to maintain their creative independence while focusing on their music.
Do artists retain ownership of their music?
Yes. Artists retain ownership of their music and creative work while maintaining full control over their artistic direction. Joining The Talentless Music does not require artists to transfer ownership of their music to the label.
Artists grant TTLM the necessary permissions to distribute and manage their releases on their behalf. Our role is to handle the distribution and administrative aspects of releasing music while providing guidance and support, allowing artists to focus on their creativity and growth.
Applications & Membership
How do I apply to The Talentless Music?
Artists interested in joining The Talentless Music can apply through our official Artist Application Form. The application asks for basic artist information, existing music releases, and distribution-related details to help our team get to know you and better understand your needs as an artist.
Applicants must be at least 13 years old to complete the standard application. Artists aged 13–17 must review the application with a parent or legal guardian before submitting. Artists under 13 should have a parent or legal guardian contact our team directly.
Once submitted, our team will review your application and contact you regarding the next steps. Submission does not guarantee acceptance into the label.
What happens after I submit my application?
Once your application is submitted, The Talentless Music team will review your information, existing music, and artistic goals to determine whether we’re a good fit for one another.
If your application is approved, our team will contact you to discuss the next steps, explain our label guidelines, distribution process, and royalty arrangements before officially welcoming you to TTLM.
Accepted artists are added to our official roster, welcomed into our artist community, and given access to our distribution system. Our team will also help coordinate the transfer of any existing releases when applicable.
Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance into the label.
Can artists under 18 join TTLM?
Yes! The Talentless Music welcomes artists of different ages and experience levels, including minors.
Artists between the ages of 13 and 17 may apply to join TTLM but must review their application with a parent or legal guardian before submitting. If accepted, parental or guardian involvement may also be required for distribution permissions and other agreements.
Artists under 13 are considered on a case-by-case basis. A parent or legal guardian must contact our team directly to discuss potential membership, as the standard application is not available to this age group.
Our goal is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where young artists can develop their creativity, learn about the music industry, and grow while maintaining their artistic independence.
Are there any requirements to remain an artist with TTLM?
Yes. Artists are generally expected to release at least two qualifying projects or singles per year, maintain communication with our team, and follow TTLM’s label guidelines and membership expectations.
Qualifying releases may include original singles, EPs, albums, remixes, and collaborations where the member is credited as a primary artist.
TTLM follows a three-strike policy for violations of our guidelines. However, serious issues involving copyright infringement, fraudulent activity, misconduct, or other significant violations may result in immediate action, including removal from the label.
We understand that every artist’s circumstances are different. Artists experiencing personal difficulties, creative setbacks, or equipment limitations are encouraged to communicate with our team so we can discuss exceptions or temporary adjustments to their release expectations.
Our goal is to maintain an active, respectful, and supportive community while giving artists the flexibility they need to grow.
Can I leave The Talentless Music?
Yes. Artists are free to leave The Talentless Music if they decide to pursue a different direction in their careers.
Artists may request to end their label membership by contacting our team. TTLM generally operates with a 14-day notice period, although requests for immediate departure may be considered.
Following an artist’s departure, our team will coordinate the removal or transfer of their existing releases according to any applicable distribution terms and requirements. Artists retain ownership of their music and may continue releasing independently or through another label or distributor.
Our goal is to make the transition as straightforward as possible while respecting each artist’s decision.
Can I collaborate with artists outside of TTLM?
Yes. The Talentless Music encourages artists to collaborate freely, whether with other TTLM members, independent artists, or artists signed to different labels.
Artists are welcome to work with outside producers, featured performers, and other creative collaborators as long as all necessary permissions, credits, and royalty arrangements are properly established before distribution.
We believe collaboration is an important part of artistic growth and do not want membership with TTLM to limit our artists’ creative opportunities.
Can I distribute music independently while signed to TTLM?
Artists are generally expected to distribute their primary releases through The Talentless Music while they are active members of the label.
However, collaborations, featured appearances, and certain independent releases may be permitted depending on the circumstances and the artist’s distribution arrangements.
Artists may also work with other record labels, provided those arrangements do not conflict with their existing obligations to TTLM or create issues involving distribution rights.
We encourage artists to discuss outside distribution arrangements with our team beforehand to avoid conflicting releases, agreements, or ownership claims.
Can I take a break from releasing music while signed to TTLM?
Yes. We understand that artists may need time away from releasing music for personal, creative, or other reasons.
Artists should communicate with the TTLM team if they plan to take an extended break so we can discuss their circumstances and make adjustments to release expectations when appropriate.
Extended inactivity without communication may result in a membership review or possible removal from the label. However, we aim to contact artists and understand their situation before making these decisions.
Can I switch between TTLM and its sublabels?
Yes. Artists may request to transfer between The Talentless Music and its affiliated sublabels if they feel another label is better suited to their needs or creative goals.
Transfers are reviewed by our team and may require adjustments to distribution agreements, release information, or label affiliation. Approval depends on the policies and requirements of the label an artist wishes to join.
Because our labels operate within a shared distribution network, we aim to make these transitions as straightforward as possible while minimizing disruptions to an artist’s existing releases.
Does TTLM require artists to sign a contract?
The Talentless Music does not currently require artists to sign a formal written contract to join the label. However, artists are expected to understand and agree to our distribution terms, royalty arrangements, and membership guidelines before working with us.
We plan to introduce formal artist and distribution agreements in the future to provide clearer documentation of each party’s rights, responsibilities, and expectations. These agreements will be designed to protect both TTLM and its artists while maintaining our commitment to creative independence and artist ownership.
Distribution & Releases
Can I transfer my existing music to TTLM?
Yes. Artists who already have music released through another distributor may be able to transfer their existing catalog to The Talentless Music.
Our team will help guide you through the migration process, including reviewing release metadata, ISRCs, UPCs, and other information needed to preserve your releases across streaming platforms.
We aim to minimize interruptions to availability and preserve existing streams and playlist placements whenever possible. However, successful transfers depend on the requirements of each streaming platform and the accuracy of the original release information.
What information do I need to release music through TTLM?
To release music through The Talentless Music, artists must provide their finalized audio files, cover artwork, release title, artist information, release date, and the necessary credits, including featured artists, producers, and songwriters.
Additional information may be required depending on the release, such as existing ISRCs, licensing documentation, and royalty split details.
Our team helps artists review their release information to ensure it meets distribution requirements and reduces the risk of delays, errors, or rejections by streaming platforms.
How long does it take for my music to be released?
Release timelines can vary depending on the preparation of your music, the accuracy of your release information, and the processing requirements of streaming platforms.
The Talentless Music generally requires artists to submit their releases at least two weeks before their intended release date. This allows our team sufficient time to review metadata, artwork, credits, and other necessary information before submitting the release for distribution.
While we work to ensure releases are delivered on schedule, final processing and availability are determined by the individual streaming platforms. Submitting music on time helps reduce the risk of delays but does not guarantee a specific release date.
What distributor and streaming platforms does TTLM use?
The Talentless Music uses Too Lost’s paid label distribution service to deliver and manage music releases across digital streaming platforms and stores.
Through Too Lost, we can distribute music to services such as Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, and many others.
Releases are generally distributed to all eligible platforms to maximize availability and reach. However, artists may discuss specific platform exclusions with our team before submitting their music, subject to Too Lost’s available distribution options.
TTLM independently manages its artists and releases using Too Lost’s distribution tools. We are not an official partner or affiliate of Too Lost.
Can I release remixes, covers, or songs using leased beats?
Yes. The Talentless Music allows artists to distribute remixes, cover songs, and music created using leased or purchased beats, provided all necessary rights and permissions have been secured.
Cover songs may require a mechanical license, which can be obtained through Too Lost’s cover licensing service. Remixes, samples, and other derivative works require authorization from the appropriate rights holders, as a standard cover license does not cover these uses.
Artists using leased or purchased beats must ensure their licenses permit digital distribution and comply with any usage restrictions. TTLM may request proof of licensing or authorization before approving a release.
We cannot distribute music containing unauthorized copyrighted material. Artists are responsible for securing the necessary rights, and our team can help review documentation and distribution requirements.
Can I release explicit music through TTLM?
Yes. The Talentless Music allows its artists to release music containing explicit language or mature themes. We manage distribution for our roster through Too Lost, our third-party distribution provider.
Tracks containing profanity, sexual references, violence, or other explicit material must be accurately labeled during the submission process.
Proper labeling helps streaming platforms apply their content restrictions and parental controls. Some platforms or territories may restrict explicit releases, and incorrectly labeled content may be rejected or removed.
Our team helps artists review their release information to ensure explicit content is properly identified before distribution.
Can I make changes to a release after it’s been submitted?
Yes. Artists can request changes to their releases by contacting The Talentless Music team.
Through Too Lost, certain updates can be made to releases that have already been delivered or published, including eligible metadata and release information corrections. However, some changes, such as replacing audio files or modifying certain copyright and label details, may require removing and redistributing the release.
Processing times vary depending on the requested changes and the streaming platforms involved. We recommend reviewing all release information carefully before submission to minimize delays or complications.
What happens if my release is rejected by a streaming platform?
If your release is rejected or flagged during distribution, The Talentless Music will work with you to identify the issue and determine what needs to be corrected.
Releases may be delayed or rejected because of inaccurate metadata, artwork issues, missing licensing documentation, copyright concerns, or failure to meet a streaming platform’s requirements.
Depending on the issue, our team may help correct the release information, provide additional documentation, or coordinate resubmission through Too Lost.
While we aim to resolve distribution issues as efficiently as possible, approval ultimately depends on Too Lost’s quality control process and the individual streaming platforms’ policies.
What should I do if my music appears on the wrong artist profile?
If your music appears on the wrong artist profile, or another artist’s music appears on yours, contact The Talentless Music team with the affected release and links to the relevant artist profiles.
We’ll review the issue and, when applicable, submit a correction request through Too Lost to have the release assigned to the proper artist page.
These corrections are typically processed within 2–7 business days, although processing times may vary depending on the streaming platform. We recommend monitoring your artist profile until the issue is resolved.
Can I remove a release from streaming platforms?
Yes. Artists can request the removal of their music from streaming platforms by contacting The Talentless Music team.
We can submit takedown requests through Too Lost to remove releases from all supported services or request removal from specific platforms when necessary.
According to Too Lost, takedowns generally take 2–7 business days to process after the request is handled, although timelines vary by platform.
Artists retain ownership of their music, and removing a release does not prevent them from distributing it independently or through another distributor in the future, subject to any applicable agreements or rights restrictions.
Royalties & Payments
Does TTLM charge artists to distribute their music?
The Talentless Music does not charge upfront fees for music distribution. Instead, we operate through a royalty-sharing model, allowing artists to release their music without paying out of pocket.
A percentage of digital distribution royalties is retained by TTLM to support our operations and the services we provide. All royalty splits and applicable terms are explained before an artist enters into a distribution agreement.
How does TTLM handle royalty payments?
The Talentless Music uses Too Lost’s royalty management system to track and manage digital distribution earnings and artist royalty splits.
As streaming platforms and digital stores report earnings, Too Lost processes the royalty information according to its reporting schedules. Artist earnings are allocated based on the agreed-upon royalty arrangements.
Artists can request information about their earnings, including available royalty reports, streaming and sales activity, and assigned royalty splits.
Our team assists artists with understanding their earnings, reviewing available reports, and addressing payment-related questions or discrepancies through Too Lost’s system.
When will I receive my royalties?
Royalties are typically reported and made available 2–6 months after the streams or sales occur, depending on when streaming platforms report and pay their earnings.
Too Lost updates royalty reports monthly, generally around the 25th. Earnings initially reported as estimated sales become available for withdrawal once they have been confirmed and received by Too Lost.
Once a payout is requested, payments are generally processed within 1–14 business days, depending on the payment method and any applicable processing requirements.
The Talentless Music uses Too Lost’s royalty system to manage artist earnings and splits, so payment availability follows Too Lost’s reporting and processing schedules.
How are royalty splits handled between TTLM and collaborating artists?
The Talentless Music retains its agreed-upon percentage of digital distribution royalties from each release. The remaining royalties belong to the artist and any collaborators entitled to a share.
Artists are responsible for discussing and agreeing upon royalty splits with their featured artists, producers, and other collaborators. Once those arrangements have been finalized, artists must provide TTLM with the correct percentages and recipient information.
Our team then uses Too Lost’s royalty management system to assign and manage the splits according to the information provided.
TTLM does not determine how artists divide their remaining royalties. Our role is to ensure the agreed-upon splits are properly entered and managed through our distribution system.
What should I do if my royalty payment or split is incorrect?
If you notice an incorrect royalty payment, missing earnings, or an issue with your assigned splits, contact The Talentless Music team with the details of your concern.
We’ll review the available royalty reports and split configurations through Too Lost to determine whether the issue involves incorrect percentages, missing recipient information, delayed reporting, or a processing error.
If necessary, we’ll contact Too Lost’s support team for further assistance. Resolution times may vary depending on the issue and whether corrections require additional processing.
Artists are responsible for notifying TTLM of any changes to previously agreed-upon collaborator splits so that we can review and update the information as appropriate.
Do I earn royalties from every streaming platform?
Artists can earn royalties from streaming platforms and digital stores that support monetization and report earnings through Too Lost.
Royalty amounts vary depending on the platform, listener location, type of stream or sale, and the service’s payment structure. Not every stream generates the same amount of revenue, and some types of activity may not qualify for payment.
Too Lost collects and reports eligible digital distribution earnings from supported services, while The Talentless Music uses its royalty management system to administer artist splits.
Artists should also understand that certain royalties, such as music publishing and some performance royalties, may require separate registration or collection services.
Does TTLM collect publishing royalties?
Not currently. The Talentless Music primarily manages digital distribution royalties through Too Lost and does not yet offer music publishing administration or publishing royalty collection.
Publishing royalties are separate from the royalties earned from sound recordings. Artists may need to register with a performing rights organization or use a publishing administration service to collect royalties associated with their songwriting and compositions.
TTLM plans to explore publishing services in the future, potentially through Too Lost’s available publishing administration options. Until then, artists remain responsible for managing their own publishing rights and royalty collection.
Are there fees or minimum balances required to withdraw royalties?
Yes. Too Lost requires a minimum available balance of $3 to request a royalty withdrawal, although certain payment methods may have higher minimum requirements.
Withdrawal fees depend on the selected payment method and may include processing or transaction charges. For example, withdrawals through Tipalti have a $100 minimum.
The Talentless Music manages artist royalty splits through Too Lost’s system, so withdrawals are subject to Too Lost’s applicable payout requirements and processing fees.
Artists are encouraged to review the available payment methods and associated fees before requesting a withdrawal.
